Say whut?
The wordpress repository is where all the plugins are stored to ensure that people can track versions of the plugin and upgrade where necessary. But actually getting onto the repo is actually difficult for beginners. However, don’t let this put you off from sharing your masterpiece. In all fairness it’s the best thing I did. It doesn’t have to be fantastically amazing, just functional and useful. And for me, the whole process takes about 1 hour (it did for me) – excluding the waiting period for the request to be accepted.
If you have put plugins on the WordPress repo before then you know what i’m going to tell you. For you that are here as newcomers – it’s going to be a trip and a half.
Stages
Think about these stages:
- Develop plugin
- Develop readme.txt
- Sign up for access to the Subversion Repository
- Get access to SVN access information
- Use Subversion and upload plugin
- Wait a bit and it appears in the Plugin Directory
